I Made It Through Immigration Island
Migrating might sound fun at first but soon you will realize that it’s very hard work. Take Immigration Island for example, the fourth graders all went through the difficult process of migration. It is a simulation activity that helped us experience what it’s like to be in the immigration process.
We went there with characters that we made up. Everyone was migrating from one place to another. We all had to go through the medical exam, the mental wellness test, and finally the toughest of them all, the interview by the legal inspectors.
Although it sounds easy, there were many obstacles such as the going through a series of tests, the questioning itself and the detention center. Even though we didn’t have a fever or we haven’t done anything wrong it was still possible to get sent to detention or back to hospital beds . Getting through the final step was really tough!
In the end we all thought it was a fun activity, and still got to learn a lot about migration.I learn that sometimes people migrate for a good reason and at times for a bad reason. Some migrate for a new job or worst, because of a natural disaster. I and the rest of fourth graders have already experienced the circle of migration and learnt a lot from it.
